EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030
The strategy aims to put Europe’s biodiversity on the path to recovery by 2030, for the benefit of nature, people, and climate.
To achieve this, it sets out a comprehensive framework of commitments and actions, in order to address the main drivers of biodiversity loss: land and sea use changes, resource overexploitation, climate change, pollution, and invasive alien species.
At the same time, it provides a roadmap for the European Union’s standing related to the global post-2020 biodiversity framework.
The EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 was adopted alongside the new EU “From Farm to Fork” Strategy.
These strategies have been designed to reinforce one another, bringing together nature, farmers, businesses, and consumers.
It forms a core part of the European Green Deal and will guide efforts toward a sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.
In addition, it will support mitigation and adaptation efforts through nature-based solutions, while facilitating the adaptation of nature and society to the unavoidable impacts of climate change.
