Water Resource Management in the Aigeiros Municipal Unit
This pilot action by the Municipal Water and Sewerage Company of Komotini (DEYAK) includes the preparation of a Water Resources Management Study (demand and supply under various climate scenarios) to assess the future stress on the drinking water supply system in the Aigeiros municipal unit due to climate change.
It also involves the procurement and installation of a permanent Automatic Water Meter Recording System, comprising 1,250 wireless data transmitters, 6 data collection hubs, and 2 data repeaters across Fanari, Arogi, and Paralia Mesis, along with the required software. This setup forms a telemetry-based dynamic water management system for the region, enabling immediate detection of consumption variations and effective control over drinking water distribution.

Terraces as Green Infrastructure on Andros Island
The LIFE TERRACESCAPE project aimed at the re-cultivation of agricultural terraces on Andros Island to function as Green Infrastructure, offering multiple benefits for the climate adaptation of insular ecosystems.
Terraces contribute to:
- Reducing flood risk
- Retaining soil and reducing erosion
- Facilitating water infiltration and replenishment of aquifers
- Improving soil fertility through proper land management
- Providing shelter and food for wildlife
Approximately 100 hectares of terraced land were cultivated using climate-smart agricultural practices, including hedgerow preservation at the boundaries of fields, gentle soil interventions, terrace maintenance, and avoidance of agrochemicals.

Development of a model water system for the management of stormwater in the Gerovouno area, D.K. Kamatero
The action includes the preparation of several studies (Hydrological and Hydraulic, Land Survey, Structural design of the reservoir, Electromechanical design of pumping stations and firefighting systems, Landscaping planning) for a well-designed and integrated stormwater drainage network in the Gerovouno area of Kamatero.
This system will channel rainwater into the Pyrgos Vassilissis Stream, which flows the area’s flood protection. The management of stormwater through potential storage reservoirs will ensure the continuous supply of water to the wetlands of the park. This integrated stormwater reuse approach is considered a best practice, though rarely implemented in Greece.
