The LAERTIS system is an innovative initiative developed in the Ionian Islands Region to manage natural hazards.

It aims to prevent and mitigate the impacts of natural disasters, such as floods and earthquakes. The system provides tools and methodologies for risk assessment and monitoring, enhancing the response capability and resilience of local communities. Through collaboration between stakeholders and citizen training, it promotes safe development and sustainable management of natural resources.

Problem Addressed: The Ionian Islands region and its local societies are frequently face severe natural disasters causing extensive damage to infrastructure and property, impacting socio-economic activities and tourism, and sometimes resulting in loss of life. Examples include the 1988 fires (5 fatalities, tourism deeply affected), recurring flooding, rockfalls (e.g., at Myrtos and Egremni 2014–2015), coastal and land erosion, and other extreme challenges
