This pilot action includes the preparation of a Forest Study for the integrated planning of management, sustainable development, and comprehensive wildfire prevention in the local communities of Geraki and Peristeri in the Municipality of Ilida.

It aims at combating forest fires and ensuring the natural protection of forest ecosystems in the aforementioned areas.

It also includes the design studies for the construction of a modern fire watchtower at “Aetofolia” location Peristeri (replacing the existing one), the improvement and maintenance of a third-category forest road connecting Peristeri to the fire watchtower (1,560m), and the installation of water tanks at locations that will be proposed. The goal is a modern fire protection plan based mainly on the prevention of forest fires, and secondly on their suppression.

Problem Addressed: Support for the development, protection, and productivity of the forest ecosystem in the face of climate change-related threats, such as species shifts, upward movement of forest zones, and loss of native forests. Emphasis is placed on wildfire prevention and mitigation of associated risks.
